SAVING MONEY ON COLOR PRINTING Metallic colors such as gold, copper or silver wont have the pop you expect when printed on bond, offset or uncoated text papers. In order to have the sparkle you expect with metallic colors, ideally they should be printed on coated sheets, either gloss or matte finish. When using uncoated stock, the best way to make those colors stand out is to use hot-foil stamping. While the process is a bit more expensive, it will certainly make your stationery or other printed piece stand out from the rest! Some of the base color of the printing stock will always show through and the darker the stock, the darker your ink will appear. Avoid obvious problem combinations like light blue on yellow (it will appear green) or dark blue on gold (it looks black). If you have a business card design or perhaps a regular newsletter that either has close color registration or simply a black imprint which is the only copy that changes, youll save money by having us pre-print masters for those jobs and storing them for later imprint. Each time you print a colored ink, there is a press washup charge. As an example, if you print a monthly or bi-monthly newsletter in black and red, have enough red shells printed for the entire year. Not only will you save money since you wont incur additional washups, youll also save time since only one color will need to be printed instead of two! Some printers will charge you a washup for each and every job you print. If we print two or more jobs of the same color at the same time, we only charge the washup fee once. So, if you have letterhead AND envelopes printed in green, order them both at the same time whenever possible instead of a week or so apart to save money.
